What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is one-to-one work between you and a licensed psychologist, structured around what you actually want to change rather than a fixed program.
Dr. Liebert works collaboratively. The first sessions focus on understanding your history, what is happening now, and what a better outcome would look like. From there, the approach is matched to you — not the other way round.
What We Treat
- Anxiety disorders — generalized anxiety, panic, social anxiety, phobias
- Depression and mood disorders
- Trauma and PTSD, including complex and childhood trauma
- Emotional dysregulation and difficulty managing intense feelings
- Personality-related difficulties
- Adjustment difficulties — life transitions, grief, relationship strain
- Behavioral dysregulation in adolescents
The Approaches Used
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) identifies the thought patterns and avoidance behaviors keeping symptoms active, then works to change them.
EMDR processes traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge, effective where talking alone has not shifted things.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy builds concrete skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
Trauma-Focused CBT is adapted specifically for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
Dr. Liebert is trained in all four and draws on them according to what your situation calls for.
Who She Works With
Adolescents and adults. For younger clients, work often includes parental involvement where clinically appropriate.
Many clients arrive having tried therapy before without much movement. A common reason is a mismatch between method and problem — talk therapy for a trauma that needs reprocessing, or insight work where skills training was the missing piece.
In Person or Online
Sessions are available in person at the Manhattan office on the Upper West Side, and online throughout New York and Connecticut. Dr. Liebert is licensed in New York, Connecticut and Florida.
Virtual sessions are equally structured. Many clients find the flexibility makes consistent attendance realistic in a way that commuting does not.
Fees and Insurance
The practice is out of network with all insurance plans. For clients with out-of-network benefits, superbills are provided for reimbursement.
